Robert Lee Askew, 84, passed away Wednesday June 22, 2016 after a long battle with Alzheimer's, his family by his side. He was born in Knoxville, Tenn. and served his country as a Master Sgt. in the Air Force for more than 20 years followed by a civil service career at Patrick Air Force Base. Robert was an alumni of Rollins College. He was a friend to all and enjoyed nature, fishing, boating, Kiwanis Club and playing poker. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Mabel, his sisters Mary and Anne and brother Bruce. He is survived by his wife Jean of 61 years; children Robert Lee Jr., Bridgette (Mike), Susan (Jimmy deceased) and Michelle (Bill); brothers John and Bud (Volena); grandchildren Jamie (Jimmy), Mary, Valerie, Christopher, Rose and Mike; many nieces and nephews; and many dear lifelong friends. The family asks for donations to the Marine Resources Council for the Save the Lagoon fund. Calling hours begin at 10 a.m. followed by services at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Beach Funeral Home. Burial will follow at National Cemetery in Cape Canaveral at 3 p.m.
