Charles William Dietlin, 85, of Simsbury, beloved husband of Cindi Heslop Dietlin, died Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Hartford Hospital. He was born April 4, 1931 in Winsted, Connecticut, son of the late Charles William Dietlin, Sr. and Irene Zavatkay Dietlin. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant. He was a graduate of The Gilbert School (1949), Cheshire Academy (1950) and of Fordham University (1954), where he played varsity football and baseball. Charles was the Eastern Regional Manager, Product Manager, and later, Manager for Industrial Motor Controls at Arrow-Hart in Hartford, Connecticut. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Simsbury and an active member of the Simsbury Tennis Association. He enjoyed gardening, spending summers on Cape Cod and working on home improvement projects. He loved sports, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and UConn Basketball. He was devoted to his family and will be remembered as a selfless husband, father, grandfather and friend. Besides his loving wife of 24 years, he is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth Dietlin Collins and her husband Richard of Simsbury, Connecticut and Nancy Dietlin and her husband David Williams of West Norwalk, Connecticut; his step daughter, Susan Merjos and her husband Daniel Kelley of New York, New York; his step son, Robert T. Vavrina, III of Raleigh, North Carolina; his sister, Laverne Horne of Keene, New Hampshire; his grandchildren, Hannah Irene Collins, Samuel Charles Collins of Simsbury, Connecticut and Rose Sara Merjos of New York, New York; his in-laws, Wilbur Heslop, Jr. and Sara Jo Heslop of Martins Ferry, Ohio; his sister-in-law, Heidi Burns and her husband Jeff of Powell, Ohio; his brother-in-law, Greg Heslop and his wife Sandy of Martins Ferry, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Dietlin McCarthy and Joyce Dietlin Ryan, and his brother, Eugene Dietlin. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury TODAY, Friday, June 10th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 11th, at St. Mary’s Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery.
