Alfred “Barney” Brooks, 81, of Holland, MA, formerly of Vernon, CT, beloved husband of the late Teresa “Terry” (Nalezny) Brooks passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016. He was born December 2, 1934 in Ilion, NY the son of the late Alfred and Ethlyn Brooks. He was a graduate of Ilion High School and Hobart and William Smith College. Barney was a United States army veteran and a lifelong NY Giants fan. He loved watching his grandson play lacrosse, biking, crosswords, caning chairs, tennis and boating. He lived in Holland with his wife at their dream lakehouse. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan Ann and Thomas Hubregsen of Southbury; his grandchildren, Emma Jill Hubregsen and Thomas Brooks Hubregsen; his niece and nephew, Karen Ryan and Dates Ryan; and his sister’s children, Bob, Lynn, Sally and Amy. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his daughter, Jill Marie Brooks. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 4 to 7 PM on Friday, July 8, 2016 at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St. Rockville, CT 06066. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 523 Hartford Tpke. Vernon, CT 06066. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Vernon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brain Injury Alliance of CT, 200 Day Hill Road, Ste. 250, Windsor, CT 06095.
