Joseph Zych

Joseph Louis Zych, age 80, of Shelton, beloved husband to Barbara Ann Zych, passed away on Wednesday July 6, 2016. Born in Wilkes Barre, PA on November 21, 1935, Joseph was the son of the late Antoni Zych and Rosaria Petrikosleca both from Poland. He was predeceased by his siblings, Anthony, Angela, and Helen. Joe proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the USS Shangri-La. He loved to be outdoors and missed his true calling as a landscape architect creating elaborate gardens with beautiful rows of rose bushes. Creative with woodworking and building he was his own home renovation expert. He was always willing to help out with whatever was needed, giving of himself whenever he could. His constant love and support will be greatly missed. Along with his devoted wife Barbara of 58 years, Joseph is survived by his son Timothy Zych and his wife Annmarie; his daughter Karen Zych and Paul Denhup who was like a son to him; his daughter Amy Myers and her husband Douglas; cherished grandchildren Lily, Holly, and David Zych along with Ashley, Mackenzie, and Christian Myers; his sisters Jean Kocher and Rose Marcinko; close nephew Matthew Popielarski and his wife Pam along with several other nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2016 from 5 to 8 pm at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad St., Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will meet directly at 11:30 am on Monday, July 11th at St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent's Medical Center, SWIM Center for Cancer Care, 2800 Main St., Bridgeport, CT 06606.
