Tulio Fontanella

Tulio S. Fontanella, 99, husband of the late Claire (Fournier) Fontanella, died on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Apple-Rehab Coccomo after a brief illness. Born in Meriden on April 13, 1917, he was the son of the late John and Jennie (Toscani) Fontanella. He was a lifelong Meriden resident and had graduated from Meriden High School. Mr. Fontanella was employed by New Departure Hyatt Bearings, a Division of General Motors, retiring in 1979. He was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church. Tulio and his late wife traveled to all fifty states. He enjoyed wood working, making furniture and toys. He leaves behind his favorite dog, Rocky. He is survived by his three children, Jack Fontanella and his wife, Jenna of Juneau, Alaska, Judy Dickinson and her husband, Richard of Meriden and Mark Fontanella and his wife, Joan of Wellesley, Massachusetts; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters The funeral will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden and at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the service on Friday morning prior to the service from 9 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492. Tulio’s family would like to thank the staff at Coccomo for the care given to him.
