Rose Somerset Obituary

Rose Somerset, 98, died Friday, October 7, 2016 at the CT Baptist Home. Born in Meriden on March 10, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Katherine (Pich) Podgurski. She had resided in Yalesville and Meriden and was employed by International Silver. She was a parishioner of St. Nicholas Church. Rose was a member of the Meriden Civil Defense Auxiliary Police, the American Red Cross where she was a Course Instructor, a Fire Watcher at the Meriden Fire Tower and the Meriden Heart Association. Rose was an avid baker and seamstress, often providing for her family and friends. Her spirit of generosity was shown by giving her time to others and many pints of blood to the American Red Cross. She enjoyed interacting with all of her family and friends. She had a diehard love for the Boston Red Sox and UCONN Women’s basketball. She is survived by a daughter, Edith Hilton of South Windsor, grandchildren; Linda Hilton, Roberta Hilton King (Randy), Jennifer Bouquot (Greg) and Laura Hilton (Greg Wilson), great grandchildren; Colleen Bouquot, Jacques Bouquot and Kate Somerset Wilson. She is also survived by sisters in law, Sophie Podgurski and Donna Powers and her nieces and nephews Kathy, Bruce and Adam Plumley, Thomas, Patricia and Susan Winarski and Mark Podgurski. The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
