Mary Elizabeth Murphy, 91, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016 at Connecticut Baptist Home. Born in Meriden on August 14, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Bridget (Lineen) Murphy. Ms. Murphy graduated from St. Joseph School, Class of 1939 and from Meriden High School, Class of 1942. Mary was employed by New Departure for thirty-nine years, retiring March 1, 1982. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church and a member of the Catholic Council. Mary enjoyed bowling, volleyball, ice skating, and horse racing. She especially loved family gatherings with her nieces and nephews. She is survived by her nieces and nephews; Terence Murphy of Meriden, Rosemary and Joe Glorioso of S. Meriden, Donna Iwanski of Durham, Patrick and Joan Alix of Tampa, Daniel and Jane Alix of Southington, Timothy and Gayle Alix of Haddam and Kevin and Karen Alix of Southington. She was also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. She was predeceased by her nephew Alan Murphy of Middletown. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450 and at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice or St. Joseph Church 22 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, CT 06451
