Maria Dolores Guijarro Calviño, 57, also known as “Miss G” by all her students, partner of Dr. Agnes Quinones, died on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Caracas, Venezuela on January 2, 1959, she was the daughter of Maria Dolores Calviño and the late Vicente Guijarro. Ms. Guijarro had resided in Meriden since 2003. She received a Sixth Year degree from UCONN/Storrs in Curriculum and Instruction in 2014, a M. Ed. in Elementary Education from Antioch/New England Graduate School/New Hampshire in 1990, and a B.A. in Comparative Literature from UPR/Mayaguez in 1981. Ms. Guijarro was employed by CT Technical High School System as a bilingual High School Teacher at Kaynor Technical High School in Waterbury, retiring in December, 2014 after a successful 27 years teaching career. She attended St. Rose of Lima Church. Besides her partner and her mother, she is survived by two sisters, Maria José Guijarro and Ligia Inés Guijarro, and several brothers and sisters-in-law. She is also survived by five nieces, Maria Gabriela, Cristina, Marlina, Kayla and Amaya, and seven nephews, Jaime Vicente, Gustavo, Michael David, Jose Francisco, Jonah, Vicente and Adam. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 4:00 pm at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden. Family and friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service from 1 to 4 pm. Burial will be in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. Memorial contributions may be made to Ms. G.
