John J. “Jay” Savulis, 52, son of the late Stanley (Lucky) and Marie Savulis, passed suddenly at his home on Saturday morning, October 15, 2016. He was the husband of Resa Rinaldi Savulis and father to Joseph Savulis of Middletown. Mr. Savulis was a 1982 graduate of OH Platt High School and a 1984 graduate of Porter and Chester Institute. While in high school and college, he was a counter person and cook at Jay Bees Luncheonette, and went on to work at Times Fiber, Canberra, Walbro Automotive and the Swift Company in Hartford. He later retired from The Furnace Man, where he proudly worked under the guidance of his nephew Allan Savulis, of Wallingford. He most recently was a trainer and volunteer Pet Partners Handler to Wolf, his prized therapy dog and brought much comfort to patients at the Harold Leever Cancer Center in Waterbury and the Meriden Rehabilitation Center. Besides his wife, son and nephew, he leaves behind a brother-in-law, Dan Fitzgerald of Meriden, brother-in-law, Don Faulkner of Meriden, brother and sister-in-law, Gina and Jeff Pulaski of Berlin, brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Denise Rinaldi of Meriden, sister-in-law, Cara Wujcik and her partner Scott Barre of Meriden and brother-in-law Jerry Rinaldi of Michigan; niece, Diana Pulaski and her partner Jeffrey Smead of CA; nephew, Jay Pulaski and his wife Kelly of Berlin, nephew, Brian Pulaski and his wife Catherine of Meriden, a great-niece, Angela Savulis, and great-nephews, Nick and Jessie Savulis and their mother Courtney, all of Wallingford; great-nephews, Evan and Alex Pulaski of Meriden and Blake Pulaski of Berlin and a goddaughter Falyn Martin and her husband Cliff of CA. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Donna Fitzgerald and his brother Frank Savulis. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 22 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, CT 06450. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be on Friday, October 21st at 8 am in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, CT 06450 on Wednesday, October 19th from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations in his name to be made to the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT 06708
