Robert Gentile Obituary

Robert W. Gentile, 85, beloved husband of the late Louise M. (Murphy) Gentile, died peacefully on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Manchester Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Robert was the son of the late Alfonse and Amelia (Dennino) Gentile. A longtime resident of Enfield, Robert was a communicant and usher at St. Patrick Church. He retired from Pratt and Whitney as a Field Service Representative in 1988. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery and with the Enfield Loaves and Fishes program. He and his late wife Louise enjoyed extensive travel throughout the United States and abroad. They especially enjoyed taking cruises and monthly trips to the casinos. Roberts travels took him to over 75 countries. He proudly served his country for 20 years with the United States Navy. He retired in 1968 as a Chief Petty Officer. He was the recipient of 9 medals. Robert is survived by his loving children, Elaine M. Metivier of Granby, MA, Eileen M. Able and her husband, John of West Hartford, CT, and Robert W. Gentile and his wife, Margaret of East Windsor, CT; his sister, Lillian Tyminski of Norfolk, VA; two brothers, Ronald Gentile and his wife, Antoinette of Palmdale, CA and Arthur Gentile and his wife, Doris of Somerville, MA; eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his brother, John Gentile and his sister, Mary Domenicucci. Family and friends will gather on Monday, October 24, 2016 by 10:15 a.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels for a procession to St. Patrick Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA. His family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, CT 06082. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Enfield Loaves and Fishes, Inc.
