Raymond "Ray" Aleskwiz, Sr. Obituary

Raymond “Ray” G. Aleskwiz, Sr., of Enfield, entered into eternal life, on Sunday July 3, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital & Medical Ctr., Hartford. He was the beloved husband of 27 years to the late Margaret “Sis” (O’Brien) Aleskwiz who passed in 1981. Raymond was born on Feb. 9, 1922 in Westfield, MA, son of the late Michael and Vincenta (Damkauskas) Aleskwiz. He had resided in Enfield for most of his life, and in his later years lived with his daughter. Ray served his country proudly with the U.S. Marine Corps during WW II. Prior to his retirement in 1985, Ray was employed with Combustion Engineering for over 20 years and with Bigelow Sanford Carpet Co. before that. He was a communicant of St. Bernard Church where he also served as an usher for 50 years, a lifetime member of the Enfield Elks Lodge No. 2222, lifetime member and past treasurer for many years of the Enfield Detection of Thieves & Robbers, an active life time member of the American Legion John Maciolek Post Post 154, Enfield, having served as treasurer, committee member & treasurer for the Community Ambulance Fund, funeral honor guard and volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Drives. He was an active civil war enthusiast and Red Sox fan. Ray is survived by his loving daughter Marybeth Aleskwiz of Enfield and son Jerry (Raymond, Jr.) Aleskwiz of New Hartford, CT, a brother Frank C. Aleskwiz of FL, along with several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Margaret “Sis”, he was predeceased by his son Jeffrey Aleskwiz in 2012. Ray’s family will receive relatives and friends during calling hours on Thurs morning July 7, 2016 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, Enfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in St. Bernard Church 426 Hazard Ave. Enfield. Interment with military honors will then take place in St. Bernard Cemetery, Enfield. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in his memory may be made to Enfield EMS, 1296 Enfield Street Enfield, CT 06082.
