John Nelson

John Willard Nelson, 93, of Johnstown, CO passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 24, 2016. He was born on September 30, 1922 in Berthoud to Axel E. and Alma (Peterson) Nelson. John graduated from Johnstown High School and married Victoria Frances Marie Gustafson on June 18, 1944. He farmed just west of Johnstown and lived in the same farm house for 61 years. John and Vicki were married for 66 years before she passed away on June 19, 2010. He married Betty Jensen in January 2011 and she died in May 2013. John married Ruth Walker on January 21, 2014 and they were blessed with two and a half years together. John was a jokester at heart and his home was always open to guests. He was a member of the Swedish Heritage Society and served on the Home Supply Ditch Board for 29 years. Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Johnstown; adopted son and daughter, Mario (Janice) Herrera of Johnstown, Ruth’s children, Tom (Susan) Walker and Mike (Susan) Walker all of Greeley, Susan Rose of Tulsa, OK, and Pam (Hal) Wright of Greeley. He is also survived by the Carlos Herrera family. Carlos worked on the Nelson farm for 31 years and raised 12 children who became extended family to John and Vicki. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives and his sister, Virginia. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Adamson Chapel with service to follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow at the Nelson home.
