Matilda (Mattie) Gallegos passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, September 11, 2016, she was 93 years old. She was born on April 18, 1923 to Fred and Beatrice Garcia in Ignacio, CO. Mattie was the oldest of 14 children. She attended school in Oxford and Tiffany and played on the Tiffany basketball team. She married John Gallegos on June 7, 1941 in Durango, CO at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was “Gram” to many of the children she babysat. She enjoyed crocheting, Bingo and baking cakes. She was preceded in death by spouse, John Sr., infant daughter Maria, son Mark, grandsons Dave and Joseph Gallegos and son-in-law, Lloyd Martinez. She is survived by Juanita (Fernando) Gallegos, Denise Martinez, Alberta (Joe) Martinez, Mariellen (Lane Leppin) Gallegos, Cami (Kenny) Rea, Bob Gallegos, Rick (Kathy) Gallegos, Andy (Melodi) Gallegos, Joe Gallegos, John (Nancy) Gallegos, Steve (Cynthia) Gallegos, 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. A rosary will be recited at 6pm on Thursday, September 14, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 2pm on Friday, September 15, 2016, with burial to follow at Greenmount Cemetery.
