Mr. Shirley Isaac Haigwood, of Newport, Arkansas departed this life on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at his home. He was born March 18, 1934, in Charlotte, Arkansas, the son of Vernon and Artie (Freeman) Haigwood, and married Miss Aleta Sullivan on May 1, 1954. Mr. Haigwood was a lifelong farmer, who lived his life working the ground. He enjoyed music, and was a member of the Surrounded Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Haigwood was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Adrin Haigwood. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Aleta (Sullivan) Haigwood of the home; three sons, Dennis Haigwood and wife, Denise, Malcolm Haigwood and wife, Lisa, and Stanley Haigwood and wife, Tanya, all of Newport; one brother, Glover Haigwood; his grandchildren, Isaac, Derek, Drew, Seth, Brandi, and Erin; seven great-grandchildren, Rydder, Maddox, Judah, Olivia, Sophie, Natalie, and Norah; and a lifetime of friends. Friends may visit at the funeral home, Sunday, 3:00-5:00 p.m. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Monday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Lawrence County Memorial Cemetery. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are grandsons, Isaac, Derek, Drew, and Seth Haigwood, Jonathan Bailey, and Lance Ritter. Honorary pallbearers are Men of Surrounded Hill Baptist Church, Chuck Haigwood, Timothy Haigwood, Keith Scoggins, Kenneth Grady, Don Robinson, and Dr. Guilford Dudley.
