Shirley Grady

Mrs. Shirley Ann (McGriff) Grady of Steeleville, Illinois, formerly of Newport, departed this life on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 in St. Louis, at the age of seventy-nine. She was born June 16, 1937 in Gideon, Missouri, the daughter of Dewitt and Margaret (Lishman) McGriff. Mrs. Grady was a 1955 graduate of Newport High School. She retired in 1987 after 31 years as a telephone operator and supplies manager for Southwestern Bell AT&T Telephone Company. Mrs. Grady managed Cat’s Folly Gift Shop in Sherwood Arkansas for 10 years, later working part-time at Associated Management, Ltd. In North Little Rock for three years. She was an avid reader, who enjoyed antiquing and shopping at flea markets. Mrs. Grady was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Destern Duane Grady; two brothers, Dewitt McGriff and Bill McGriff; and her parents. Mrs. Grady is survived by one daughter, Sheryl Grady of Steeleville, Illinois; two special nieces, Joy Kiehna of Steelville, Illinois, and April Grady Saenz of Nacogdoches, Texas; special nephews, Steve McGiff, Richard McGriff, and Patrick McGriff of Ava, Illinois, Larry McGriff of Blue Eye, Missouri, Mike McGriff of Fenton, Missouri, and Luke Grady of Fayetteville, Arkansas; her sister-in-law, Betty McGriff of Ava, Illinois; and several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She had a lifetime full of friends and family and she cherished them all. Memorial services are 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 1, 2016, at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel.
