Kenneth Johnson

Mr. Kenneth Aaron Johnson of Amagon, Arkansas, departed this life on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the age of ninety-three. He was born March 12, 1923 in Pennington, Arkansas, the son of John Walter and Minnie Eva (Bible) Johnson. Mr. Johnson retired from Revere, and was a United States Army veteran, serving in World War II. While in the Army, he served in the Campaigns of Normandy, North France, Rhineland, and Central Europe, earning 4 Bronze Stars and 2 Purple Hearts for his service. He also received the Presidential Citation for his service in France. Mr. Johnson enjoyed any activity that allowed him to be outside. He spent his time gardening, woodworking, arrowhead hunting, and building go-carts, lawn mowers, and engines. He was known for his homegrown sorghum, and his love of square dancing. Mr. Johnson was Mayor of Amagon for one year, and a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mauricelle Johnson; his second wife, Winnie Smalley Johnson; one son, Rickie Johnson; two brothers, Larry Johnson and Oran Johnson; and one granddaughter, Kambi, one sister, Margaret Jane Evins. Mr. Johnson is survived by his loving companion of 20 years, Linda Atkinson of the home; two sons, Kenneth Johnson and wife, Patricia, of Grubbs, and Jackie Johnson and wife, Gayle, of Mississippi; three daughters, Janet Honey of Newport, Patricia Crawford and husband, Roger, of Paragould, and Tammy Bracewell of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; his daughter-in-law, Sandy Johnson; two brothers, E.E. “Buster” Johnson of Pleasant Plains and John “Tobe” Johnson of Mena; six sisters, Wilma Green of Newport, Lo Andrews of Midway, Fran Russum of St.Louis, Nada Wilburn of Mansfield, Betty Addington of Newport, and Laveda Crisher of Pennington; ten grandchildren, Jerwayne, Missy, Sherry, Bubby, Amy, Ashley, Jeremy, Tashauna, Riesa, and Aaron; sixteen great-grandchildren, Haley, Ethen, Felicia, Brittany, Albert, Brittany, Trey, Isabelle, Isaiah, Logan, Hunter, Jordan, Holly, Ian, Gavin, and Deana; and one great-great grandchild, Jacoby; and a caregiver whom he thought of as a daughter, Bobbie Atkinson. Friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Monday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Kenneth Aaron Johnson of Amagon, Arkansas, departed this life on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the age of ninety-three.
