James Evins Obituary

Mr. James E. Evins of Amagon, Arkansas, departed this life on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the age of 78. He was born October 27, 1937 in Newport, the son of Elzie and Rosie Bell (Green) Evins. Mr. Evins was a maintenance welder and millwright, retiring in 2000. He was a United States Army veteran, serving curing the Cuban Missile Crisis. As a young man, he worked for McDonald Aircraft in St. Louis, Missouri, and was asked by NASA to work as a welder in Huntsville, Alabama. He declined the offer, because it meant he would have to leave his family for a year. Mr. Evins was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing, shooting, gardening, working in his shop, and hunting deer, squirrel, and rabbit. Mr. Evins was a licensed pilot, who enjoyed flying. His greatest love came from his family, and time spent with his children and grandchildren. He loved children, and was an incredibly kind, loving man, who gave selflessly to others. He was a faithful member of the Pennington Church of Christ. Mr. Evins was preceded in death by his first wife, Youtha (Geaslin) Evins; one brother, Willis Evins; one grandson, Brad Heath; one daughter-in-law, Karen Warren Bradley; and his parents. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Donna (Isabell) Bradley Evins of the home; one son, Greg Evins of Little Rock; one daughter, Alesa Thornton and husband, Michael, of Grubbs; two step-sons, Bill Bradley of Newport, and Terry Bradley of Newport; three step-daughters, Vada Hutchins and husband, Farrell, of Elgin, Tina Stoner and husband, Michael, of Cord, and Angie Brock and husband, Clint, of Conway; twelve grandchildren, Brent Thornton, Colton Thornton, Kandace Moldan, Tristen Gates, Trey Thornton, Justin Hutchins, Jermey Hutchins, Shane Heath, Tyler Stoner, Matthew Bradley, Emily Bradley, and Shelby Brock; twelve great-grandchildren; and a lifetime of friends. Friends may visit at the funeral home, Thursday, June 23, 2016, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Friday at Pennington Church of Christ, with interment in Carter Cemetery.
