Iona Thompson Obituary

Iona M. Earls Thompson, 68, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on September 12, 2016 in a local hospital. She was born on June 18, 1948 in Heavener, Oklahoma to Elvin and Lola (Spears) Earls. She was a graduate of Heavener High School and attended Eastern Oklahoma State College. She began working at Holt Krock Clinic at the age of 18 as a secretary to Dr. William Lockhart primarily, but also all the neurosurgeons and neurologist. She was appreciated for her expertise and loved for her good nature and humor. She had a host of family and friends who treasured her as well. She was preceded in death by her son Cody Thompson and twin brothers, Owen and Olen Earls. She was of the Baptist faith. A memorial service will be 2:00PM, Friday, September 16, 2016 at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home with Reverend Kevin Thompson officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Dewayne Thompson of the home; one son, Mark Thompson of Fort Smith, Arkansas; a sister, Thelma Andrews of Heavener, Oklahoma; a daughter in law, Gina Core and her husband Jesse of Springdale, Arkansas and two grandchildren, Jagger Thompson and Mia Core both of Springdale, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Kitties and Canines 4900 Rogers Ave, Suite 100A fort Smith, AR 72903.
