Lurlie Penland

Lurlie Jane Penland, age 95, of Unicoi went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 26, 2016 while in the Center on Aging and Health. She was a native of Clintwood, Virginia and had lived in this area since 1948. Mrs. Penland was a daughter of the late Nelson and Cresia Mills Mullins. She was a member of the Sexton Freewill Baptist Church, Marshall, NC. Other than her parents, Mrs. Penland was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Reverend Spivey Penland on October 25, 2010; three brothers, Jethroe, Napolean "Poley" and James Clyde Mullins; three sisters, Opal Moore, Vadna Moore and Gladys Vanover. Mrs. Penland leaves behind to cherish her memories; one son, Eddie Penland and wife, Judy Bradley Penland of Johnson City; one granddaughter, Alison Marie Penland, of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Peggy Mazzone of Wilmington, Delaware; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends from 12:30 P. M. Tuesday, June 28, 2016 until the hour of service. Reverend Eddie McAmis will officiate at the 2:00 P. M. funeral service. Music will be provided by the Sexton Freewill Baptist Church Singers. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Committal Service will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family would like to extend a very special "thank you" to Brandie Horton and the staff of Center on Aging and Health for the special care given to Mrs. Penland. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Penland's memory to the Center on Aging and Health, Activities Department, 880 South Mohawk Drive, Erwin, TN 37650.
