Hazel Riggs

Hazel Rice Riggs, age 85, Erwin passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the Erwin Health Care Center. She was a native of Unicoi County but had lived in Ashtabula, Ohio for several years before returning to Erwin in 1987. Mrs. Riggs was a daughter of the late Ed L. and Thelma Bailey Rice. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Riggs was a member of Shallow Ford Baptist Church. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Orval Ray Riggs on September 11, 1987; one brother, Luther Rice; three sisters: Maude Callahan, Pansy Hensley and Nola Briggs. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, two brothers: Kenneth Rice and wife, Charlotte of Erwin, Layton Rice and wife, Edith of Newport News, VA; one sister, Louise Bostic of Unicoi. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 23, 2016 from 11:00 A. M. until the hour of service at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Carl Shipley will officiate at the 1:00 P. M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Pallbearers will be James Hensley, J. D. Hensley, Randy Rice, Dwight Briggs, Jeffery Rice and Rick Turner. Interment will follow in the Upper Rice Creek Cemetery.
