Dollie Mae Simmons, age 85, of Erwin passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at the Center on Aging and Health, Erwin. She was a native of Yancey County, NC and had lived most of her life in Unicoi County. Mrs. Simmons was a daughter of the late Jess James and Pearl Renfro Edwards. She was a CNA and worked in home care nursing. Mrs. Simmons was a member of Chestoa Baptist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters and three grandsons. Mrs. Simmons leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of sixty-seven years, John T. Simmons, Sr; three sons, Kenneth Lee Simmons and wife, Dixie; John T. Simmons, Jr., Daniel N. Simmons and wife, Barbara all of Frederick, MD; one daughter, Dianna L. Boone and husband, Roger of Clear Springs, MD; one sister, Mayfre Jean Waters of Erwin; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends Friday, August 5, 2016 from 12:00 noon until the hour of service at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Roger Hilemon will officiate at the 1:30 P. M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler, pianist. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memory Gardens, Johnson City.
