Bernice LaValley (Mayo) 1930 – 2016 Bernice LaValley passed away at Newhope Pioneer Lodge, Stoughton, SK on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the age of 86 years. Bernice is survived by her husband Leo LaValley; children, Elaine (John) McIntosh, Doris (Jerry) Wilkes, Jim (Bev) Mayo and Lois (Floyd) Howard; son-in-law Marc Tremblay; grandchildren, Janet (Lucas) Hall, Ronald McIntosh (Jenine Cayen), Kelly (Aime) Wilkes, Sarah Wilkes, Stephanie Wilkes (Michael Nixon), Teresa (Colin) Ellis, Stacey (Brian) Westerhaug, Christine (Ryan) Tokarchuk, Michelle (Neil) Rooney, Reid, Megan and Brett Howard; 12 great grandchildren, and sister Irene Brown. She was predeceased by her first husband Richard Mayo; daughter Virginia Mayo; son Vern Mayo; parents, Ottar and Emma Ness; brothers, Rudolph, Arthur and Jeoffrey Ness and brother-in-law Ken Brown. Bernice was born and raised in the Outram area. Later, she worked in Benson as a housekeeper and babysitter until she met her first husband, Richard Mayo. They farmed and raised six kids in the Ossa area for 26 years. They then moved to Stoughton where Bernice worked as a cook. Two years later, after Richard passed away, she met and married Leo LaValley. She became a member of the Legion Auxiliary and drop-in centre. Bernice’s favourite pastime activities were singing, dancing, going to church every Sunday, playing cards and Bingo, and doing puzzles. A Service of Remembrance for Bernice was held on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace United Church, Stoughton, with Elizabeth Goodson officiating. Interment took place at the Stoughton Town Cemetery, after which a luncheon was held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Stoughton. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hall Funeral Services, Estevan.
