McWHIRTER, Una Lillian (nee Davis) - It is with heavy hearts but with profound thanksgiving for a life well lived that our family announces the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Una Lillian McWhirter. Una passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at Oakwood Park Lodge, on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the age of 95. Beloved wife of the late Darrell McWhirter (1994). Cherished mother of Vincent, Arthur (Sandi), Lillian Gilbert (Bob), Marion Sharp (late Eddie) and Una Rousseau (Raymond). Proud and loving grandmother of Jamie (Jill), Eric (Pam), Ashlee (Dave), Craig, Brad (Dayna) and great-grandmother of Rylee, Ryan, Dylan, Gwendelyn and Rhys. Also survived by her sisters Beverly Rafuse, Ina Davis and brother Darrell Wayne Davis. Una enjoyed quilting and knitting. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family of whom she was most proud of. As her family grew, grandchildren and great-grandchildren became the apple of her eye and she enjoyed and delighted in baking with them. Una was very devoted to her family and her love will live on in their memories. A service to celebrate her life will be held at the H.L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Sunday, August 28th at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior, beginning at 1 p.m. A private interment will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Walker Cancer Centre or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the devoted staff at Oakwood Park Lodge who showed compassion and respect when caring for Una.
