CLARKE, John Edward “Ted” - It is with broken hearts that the family of John Edward “Ted” Clarke announce his sudden passing at the Welland Hospital on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at the age of 77. Ted was fortunate enough to be married to the love of his life and high school sweet heart Gay (nee Denniston) for 57 years. Cherished father of Michael (Kathryn Rock), Michelle Gay (Bob) and Tiina Duncanson (Peter). Proud and loving grandfather of Randi, Mackenzie and Matthew Clarke, Riley and Zelda Gay, Kyla Cox (Curtis), Kiersten Hannen (Jeremy) and great-grandfather of Georgia and Harper Rose. Dear brother of Bob Clarke (Charlotte), Lorne Atkinson, Paul Atkinson (Brenda) and brother-in-law of Pat Wadge (Gord). Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Lorne and Violet Clarke and stepfather Bill Atkinson. Ted will be remembered for being a gentle man with an inspiring outlook on life. He was a natural athlete, but more important, he was kind, caring and a true gentleman. A devoted husband and father, he encouraged his children to pursue their goals and to put family above all else. Selfless in death as he was in life, Ted donated his body to the University of Waterloo in hopes of contributing to research in Kinesiology and Optometry. The family invites friends to join them to celebrate and honour Ted’s life at the Community Centre of Hunter’s Pointe on Wednesday, October 19th at 2 p.m. followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to ‘Sleeping Children Around the World’, an organization dear to Ted’s heart, would be appreciated by his family.
