Yvon Sonier

À la douce mémoire d’Yvon Sonier 5 décembre 1934 au 21 août 2016 81 ans Décédé le dimanche 21 août 2016 à la maison, entouré de sa famille. Époux bien-aimé de Lorraine Sonier (née Kingsley), de Hanmer. Cher père de Gilles (Donna), Denis (Glenda), Jacques (Ginette), Lise (Marcel Dupuis) et Nicole (Michael Graham). Précieux grand-père de Faye, Jason, Joel, Denis, Alain, Amanda, Matthew, Joey (décédé), Robin, Michelle, Natalie et Nicholas; arrière-grand-père d’Izabella, Jaykob, petit Jacques, Isaac, Ezra, Jack et Melina. Il était le fils de feu Albert et de feu Emma (née Savoie) Sonier. Cher frère de Gemma LeBreton (feu Alfred), feu Viateur (Rose), Archangela (Gerry Belanger) et Denis (Faye). Il laisse dans le deuil de nombreux beaux-frères, belles-sœurs, neveux et nièces. Yvon était un skieur de fond passionné qui a tenu et détient toujours le record de Count the Kilometers Skier of the Year au club de ski à Capreol. Il aimait la pêche, surtout à Green Bay Lodge et à Lang Lake. Il aimait aussi aller en quad, jouer au golf et aux quilles, jouer et entraîner au hockey, et était un jardinier passionné. Il était particulièrement fier de sa récolte d'ail cette année. Yvon était très fier de ses racines acadiennes. Il a travaillé pendant plusieurs années chez INCO et, à sa retraite, a fait du bénévolat dans sa communauté. Il était membre, ancien président et vice-président du Club d'Âge d'Or à Hanmer, où il a donné son temps à la collecte de fonds et à la menuiserie. Il était aussi impliqué dans la paroisse de Saint-Jacques comme servant de messe, ministre de l'eucharistie, président du conseil et en tant que membre du 3e degré des Chevaliers de Colomb, Conseil no 5005, Hanmer. Yvon et Lorraine ont également trouvé le temps de se rendre en Jamaïque, où ils ont aidé à construire des maisons pour les personnes dans le besoin. Il sera exposé au Salon funéraire Lougheed Chapelle de Hanmer/Capreol 4605, chemin Michelle, Hanmer le jeudi 25 août de 14 h à 17 h et de 19h à 21h. Le service religieux aura lieu à la paroisse Saint-Jacques, Hanmer le vendredi 26 août 2016 à 10 heures. Inhumation au cimetière Saint-Jacques. Beloved husband of Lorraine Sonier (née Kingsley) of Hanmer. Loving father of Gilles (Donna), Denis (Glenda), Jacques (Ginette), Lise (Marcel Dupuis) and Nicole (Michael Graham). Cherished grandfather of Faye, Jason, Joel, Denis, Alain, Amanda, Matthew, Joey (predeceased), Robin, Michelle, Natalie and Nicholas; great grandfather of Izabella, Jaykob, petit Jacques, Isaac, Ezra, Jack and Melina. Predeceased by his parents Albert and Emma (née Savoie) Sonier. Dear brother of Gemma LeBreton (Alfred predeceased), Viateur (Rose) both predeceased, Archangela (Gerry Belanger) and Denis (Faye). Sadly missed by many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Yvon was an avid cross country skier who held and still holds the record for “Count the Kilometers Skier of the Year” at the Capreol Ski Club. He enjoyed fishing especially at Green Bay Lodge and Lang Lake. He also enjoyed quading, playing golf, playing and coaching hockey, bowling and was an avid gardener; especially proud of this year’s garlic harvest. Yvon was very proud of his Acadian roots. He worked for many years at INCO and in retirement was able to volunteer in his community. He was a member, past president and vice president of the Club d’Age d’Or in Hanmer where he was dedicated his time to fundraising and carpentry. He was also involved in St. Jacques Parish serving on the Council as president, as a server, minister of the Eucharist and as a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5005, Hanmer. Yvon and Lorraine also found the time to travel to Jamaica where they helped build homes for those in need. Resting at the Lougheed Funeral Home Hanmer/Capreol Chapel 4605 Michelle Dr, at Hwy 69N, Hanmer on Thursday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Knights of Columbus prayers at 8 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at St. Jacques Church, Hanmer on Friday, August 26 2016 at 10 a.m. Interment at the St. Jacques Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Northern Cancer Foundation would be kindly appreciated by the family.
