In Loving Memory of Dan “Slim” Vernon, 57 years of age, who passed away peacefully Sunday August 21st, 2016 at the Maison Vale Hospice, Sudbury. He was surrounded by his loving wife, family, and lifelong friend. Beloved husband and best friend of 36 years to Barbara (nee White) Vernon. Loving father of Brad (Amy), Jenn, and cherished grandfather of Kyra. Brother of Steve (Belinda), Catherine, and Joanna; Brother in-law of George (Laurie) and Bessie (Kevin); Son-in-law of Robert White (Fay). Sadly missed by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, colleagues, friends, and furry friend Bella. Dan was born and raised in Capreol by his grandparents Judy and Hanlan Vernon. He enjoyed discussing politics and sports into the midnight hours with lifelong friend Brian Kelly while watching the Boston Bruins beat the Habs. He loved golfing, fishing, fine scotch, cigars, his morning crossword puzzle, and talking railway with colleagues and old friends. Dan started working at Canadian National Railway in 1980, continuing his career in Signals and Communications until January 2015. He took great pride in his work, ending his career as Manager of S&C Operations, making many great friends along the way. Dan and family would like to thank Dr. Cano, his nurse Sue, and the staff and volunteers at the Vale Hospice. As per Dan’s wishes there will be no funeral, visitation, or service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Maison Vale Hospice, or the SPCA would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
