Plouffe, Bernard (09/09/37 – 28/07/16) Survived by his wife and best friend for 47 years, Suzanne (née Tessier), two daughters Margo Tessier, Casselman and Christine Allard (Denis), Sturgeon Falls and his beloved grandchildren Aimée, Miguel and Adelle Allard, Sophie, Jake and Zak Tessier-Cossette. Predeceased by his parents, Eudore Plouffe and Alma Morin and seventeen brothers and sisters. Bernie was an all-around sportsman, starting in grade school with the Christian Brothers gym and hockey teams, football, track and field in high school, hockey in Merchant League and boxing at Cadet Camp. He also coached baseball/softball teams, kids’ team and on particular winter, a special hockey team from Garden Village. In 1961, Bernie won the Northern Ontario Middleweight title in boxing. He stayed on as a volunteer in boxing and kickboxing until he was 65 years old as a trainer for amateur boxers, various duties at boxing matches and cornerman for 15 years, for Jean-Yves Thériault – world middleweight Kickboxing champion. Bernie was inducted in the W.N. Sports Hall of Fame as a boxer in 2007. He was a tireless volunteer in the West Nipissing area starting young as a server at mass with the R.C. “Jeunesse Active” movement, carnivals, picnics, fundraising (especially at the Complex), parades, etc. Bernie was very proud when he graduated from Canadore College in his 50s. Bernie was outgoing, loved to laugh, reminisce with young and old and loved to talk.
