Jack Earlen Vanstone Obituary

Jack Earlen Vanstone ~ Peacefully, Jack passed away on August 6 at William Osler Hospital, Etobicoke General site, at age 89. Born in Lindsay, he completed his primary education at Lindsay Central School. In 1941, he moved with his family to Toronto, where he pursued vocational training and graduated from Weston Collegiate and Vocational School in 1945. Jack joined the Air Cadet League of Canada in Toronto in 1942 and received pilot training, leading to a private pilot licence. He retired as an Air Cadets instructor with a rank of Flying Officer in the Supplementary Reserve (A.C.O.). In 1972, Jack completed a beginner’s square dance class, leading to a long association with square and round dancing in the Toronto area. Jack worked for Procter & Gamble, retiring in 1987 after almost 30 years with the Toronto head office. Jack remains the beloved brother of Carl Vanstone of Sudbury (wife Isla, predeceased), half-brother of Lloyd Vanstone (predeceased) in London, and much-loved uncle of Stephen, Judith, and Susan Vanstone, all of the Toronto area. Jack was the former husband of Janet Pearl Parent (Andrews, Cargoe, Vanstone) of Scarborough and father of Debra Jane Scott of Nova Scotia (predeceased respectively in 1995 and 2008), with grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Nova Scotia. Jack led a varied and energetic life. Outgoing and social, he loved to see and experience what the world has to offer. We will miss his humour, kindness, and generous spirit. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Jack’s life at the Mackey Funeral Home, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay, on Wednesday, August 17, with visitation at 12:30p.m and a service at 1:30p.m. Interment in the Vanstone family plot to follow at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #67 (Lindsay) would honour Jack’s memory through the funeral home or online at www.mackeys.ca
