Lee Philp Kitchener Obituary

Lee Philp

Philp, Aliette (Lee) (nee Dumont) Passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of family and friends on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at The Village of University Gates at the age of 73. She is survived by her beloved husband Dave Philp of Waterloo who was the love of her life. Her sons Paul Perna (Kim) of New Hamburg and Denis Lafreniere (Dominique) of Sturgeon Falls who were precious gifts to Lee and her only daughter Kim (nee Cangiano) Devine (John) of Waterloo with whom she shared a bond that only a mother and daughter could. Step-mother to Pam (Bruce) and Lynn (Bernie). Also her "favourite child " Spencer, her Maltese dog that gave Lee unconditional love each and everyday. Lee adored her grandchildren Natalie Perna (Adam), Brittany Ceccato (Justin), Matthew Cangiano (Ashley), Dalton Cangiano (Victoria), Abbey Devine (Ben), Christian Devine. Special grandma to; Kate, Rachel, Claire, Michelle, Eric and Morgan. Lee was so fortunate to have her great-grandsons Keagen, Bennett and Huxley, three little boys who could make her heart sing. Lee is also survived by her brothers Bertrand (Germaine), Guy (Janet), Alain, Denis and one sister Guylaine and her sisters-in-law; Betty, Jesse (Tom who passed away two days before Lee) and Sandra (Keith). She held a special place in her heart for her friend Dale Uberig, her daughter-in-law Tonya Cangiano, her brother-in-law Lionel Raymond and her sister-in-law Rita Pacaud. Predeceased by her precious son Chris Cangiano in 2006 and several other family members including her dearly loved and always missed mother Yvonne Dumont. Lee came to Kitchener-Waterloo in 1968 not knowing too many people, if any. She became a teachers aid at Sacred Heart School where hundreds of children and families grew to love and adore her. Her story continued on with her work at Seagrams, making lifelong friends until the doors closed. Lee then became a French teacher which was one of the most rewarding jobs she had ever had. Lee was so proud to work each and every evening on lessons she would teach her children the following day and always with the biggest smile and heartfelt dedication. Her passion then changed to become one of the greatest and most loved PSW's in the region. Her compassion, care and love for her clients was no less than that for her family. Not letting the disease stop her, Lee continued to help residents and staff at University Gates. Lee had a personality that could light up an entire room just by entering it. Her smile was infectious and she became famous at University Gates for her hugs and dancing. She was the kindest, most considerate woman, never asking for anything from anyone but doing as much as she could for anyone who asked, and even those who didn't. Lee was given the diagnosis of having Alzheimers in 2009 and responded with "I've taken care of many with Alzheimers, I guess it's my turn now". She was the mom every kid prayed for and many adopted as their own. She was the friend no one wanted to live without. The daughter any parent would have been proud of and the sister that kept her family close to her heart. She was the family member that brought so much joy and laughter to the family, never saying an ill word about anyone. Most of all she was the wife who after 32 years could still make her husbands heart skip a beat every time he saw her. To the residents who continue to grace the hallways of Hagey neighbourhood at University Gates, may your families be blessed with the peace we now have and may you always know you had a friend in Lee! Thank you for taking such good care of mom and giving her a home away from home. Lee's family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday, October 23,2016 from 10-10:45 a.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home 507 Frederick St., Kitchener (519) 749-8467. The funeral service will take place in the chapel of the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Sunday followed by a reception. A private family interment will take place at Parkview Cemetery at a later date. Lee could change someone's day with just a simple hug. #TheHugEffect As expressions of sympathy, donations to KidsAbility or the Schlegel Village Foundation-University Gates (Hagey Village) would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
