Franciska Chelmecki Obituary

Chelmecki, Franciska Passed away on July 20, 2016, at the age of 93 years, surrounded by her family and friends. Wife of Jan (pre-deceased). Mother to Anna, Jadzia Kufske (Peter), Joe (Elizabeth) and Stan (Sharon). Babcia to Kate, Andrew (Rebecca), Jon (Caro), Stephen (Jill), Alexandra, Christopher and Holly. Pra-Babcia to Peyton, Amelia and Jack. She was our personal cheerleader, fashion designer, painter, chef (especially her cabbage rolls) and home renovator. Luck, faith, and an indomitable spirit allowed her to survive the war years. We loved her story of how she met the love of her life, our Dad. We thank her that after the war, Mom had the foresight to choose Canada and freedom for her family. She and Dad bought two tickets and travelled by ship to Canada, with two babies, and just the clothes on their backs. We know now why she protected us. Although Mom experienced pure evil during the war, she never lost her faith in humanity. She was there for all of us especially when we needed her most. We thank her and our father for all their many sacrifices. We have so many wonderful memories, especially our delicious family dinners and her saying “Bon appetite”. Closer to her death she found it difficult to use her words, but always said that she loved everybody and God was in her heart! She had a special skill of bringing people to laughter or tears. We would like to thank the exceptional and compassionate team of caregivers on Snyder’s Corner at Parkwood Mennonite Home in Waterloo. Franciska's family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2016 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St. Kitchener (519) 749-8467. Funeral Mass at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, 75 Bluevale Ave., Waterloo, on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 11 a.m. Interment Woodland Cemetery. Reception to follow at Henry Walser Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to Parkwood Mennonite Home’s Flower Gardens (cards available at the funeral home). Mother loved sitting in the sunshine and chatting with her friends and family. Please visit www.henrywalser.com to view Franciska's memorial.
