Douglas Franklin Cambridge, Ontario Obituary

Douglas Franklin

Franklin, Douglas Paul (January 26, 1959) - Douglas died peacefully at age 57 on September 25, 2016 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital after a short and valiant 9 month struggle with cancer. Dougie was the beloved and cherished older brother of Lori (Olie) Hillis, Teresa (T.C./Arkie) Franklin and Patti (Beanie) Roy (Dan). Survived by his daughters Sarah Heins (Brian, grandchildren Jake and Leah) and Alexandra Franklin. He is predeceased by his brother Bob (1984), his father John (2006), his mother Evelyn (2007) and his brother Dennis (2007). Also survived by his loving nieces and nephews Amanda (Jeff), Michelle (Dave), Candice (Graham), Aaron (Laura), Alyssa (Nicholas), Heather, Danyel, Andre, and Joseph. Loved dearly by his great nieces and nephews Brayden, Cohen, Jayce, Talyn, Ryder, Xavier, Taylor, Tyler, Jackson, and Ayla. Proud to be a Hespeler boy, Doug loved spending his time going for country drives in his car and on his motorcycle, fishing, taking trips to the casino, scratching winning tickets, and having a few drinks with his friends after work. Ever since the age of fourteen, Doug passionately spent his whole working life in the printing/bindery business and was well known as one of the best in his chosen field. He will be greatly missed by his co-workers at Waterloo Printing Company Ltd. where he spent many years filling up the swear jar. His entire life had a vein of humour running through it, often being the spark that created some of the best memories for those he was with. This sense of humour stayed with him during much of his courageous fight, and it is what we will all miss most about him. His sisters wish to thank the Oncology staff at Medical Day Clinic, and the 3B South nurses and staff at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Thanks also to CCAC for all of their support, especially ParaMed RN's Pat and Joanne, for always sharing a laugh with Doug while taking exceptional care of him during their home visits. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28th, 2016 from 7 pm to 9 pm, and on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 11 am to 1 pm at Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Boulevard, Cambridge, Ontario with cremation and private family burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Oncology Unit at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital or the Waterloo Wellington CCAC.
