Obituary

LOIS EMILY PICHE (nee DAVIDSON) You Were Loved.

Peacefully on 19 August at the age of 92 years, Lois Emily Piché (nee Davidson) passed away, in her home at Sherwood Park Manor, in Brockville, Ontario.

Lois, formerly of Beachburg/Cobden area, was born 25 June 1924, to her loving parents (predeceased) Daniel and Nettie Davidson. It was a busy household with 2 older sisters Ruth Margaret Black (nee Davidson) and Hazel Carmen Morris (nee Davidson) and 6 brothers: Hiram, Douglas, Wallace, Donald, Roy and her younger brother Cecil Davidson. Lois was predeceased by all of her immediate family, beginning at the tender age of 7yrs in 1933, when her eldest brother Hiram was killed in a lumber accident, to the death of her younger brother Cecil in 2010, who was in poor health.

Lois finished high school and went to work in Ottawa, where she met a handsome soldier named Charlie Piché. Charlie and Lois quickly became an 'item', married, and had 2 children, Allen and Judy.

In the late forties, they moved to Garson, Ontario where Charlie worked in the local mine, earning a whopping $1/hr and Lois stayed home raising the children. Later, they moved to North Augusta, Ontario, where Lois became gainfully employed at the local grocery store, Beaton's. Charlie worked in Prescott at Art's Garage. Eventually they moved to Prescott, Ontario where Lois worked at the Red and White grocery store and briefly at the IGA store. Here they had a late 'oops' with the birth of their youngest daughter Susan. Lois, again took time to stay home and raise her child for a few years, before returning to another grocery store position.

Lois was at one time a smoker and she was often found being a supportive friend to others over the kitchen table with her cup of tea and a cigarette. Reluctantly, after 2 heart attacks in her early 40's, she quit smoking. But she remained the kind of person people would go speak with for support and feedback. Charlie worked at the West End Fina garage and was known as one of the Fina Boys. Lois worked for many years at the Dominion store. One of Lois' 'claim to fame' at work was her ability to predict, often within the range of a dollar, the amount any cashier would have to load her cash till for the day. She would jokingly say she was "the only one who knew anything". She was pleasant and helpful. Residents of Prescott, from that time period, remember her. Lois and Charlie would later move a few times, within the general area, and Charlie took a position at South Grenville High School as a custodian and Lois took a position at Zellers in Brockville as a cashier.

During their retirement years they lived in Elliot Lake, Ontario and Brockville at Balmoral Place. Lois was a nurturing person, she cared for her older sister Ruth prior to her passing, as well as her husband, Charles Edward Piché, who died in 2000 of a rare disease process. Lois lived another 16 years after his death, becoming more involved in her remaining family. There was a growing sense of loss in Lois, as those close to her, continued to move on. At the age of 85 with all her immediate family, her husband and most of her friends gone, she claimed life wasn't fair.

Lois finally made the decision to move into a facility that would help her with daily care. She spent a brief time in the Mayfield Residential Home, in Prescott, celebrating her 90th birthday amongst family and friends who came to visit. Lois had her own League of Champions, who graciously pulled together as a team to help her with the transition into The Mayfield. However, her health began to fail, so that she was required to have more personal and nursing care, requiring another move into Sherwood Park Manor for the final days of her life.

Lois lives on in the hearts and minds of each of us who knew her and loved her.

She was survived by her loving children, Allen Piché of BC, Judy Vickery of Brockville, and Sue Piché (Freddy Nielsen) of Denmark. She was a cherished Grandmother of 4 Grandsons: Richard Vickery (Kate Sim), David Vickery (Patti nee Wax), Christien Piché (Jessica nee Bailey), and Vanion Piché Paradis. Caring Great Grandmother to 3 Great Grandchildren: Krista Vickery, Kori Vickery (Jessica nee Mallory), and Joshua Vickery. Loving Great Great Grandmother to Zach Vickery, Noah Vickery, Tyresse Vickery and Lawrence Mark Vickery.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Irvine Memorial Chapel at Roselawn, 2451 County Road 15, Maitland, Ontario on Tuesday 23 August from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Wednesday 24 August at 10 am.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Diabetes Society will be gratefully acknowledged.
