Dr. Donald James Armstrong Obituary

Armstrong, Dr. Donald "Donnie" James - age 79, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful, warm, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the Yarmouth Hospital on September 13, 2016. He was born on September 6, 1937 in Bell Neck, Yarmouth Co., son of the late Frederick and Theresa(Surette) Armstrong. He was a graduate of St.F.X University and Dalhousie School of Dentistry, class of 1966, and went on to practise in his community for 50 years, until his retirement in May. His passions were first and foremost his family, spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing, and volunteering in his community. He had a special twinkle in his eyes, and a love for life, living every day to the fullest. There is an emptiness in our lives, but we will forever cherish the memories. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Margot (Redding). Children, Stephen (Beth), Colin (Kelly), Jana (James), Lisa (Kirby), Mark(Mary) and Joel; and sisters Jeanne Armstrong-Hall and Carol Flinn; grandchildren, Jason (Elaina), Katie, Erin, Matthew, Sophie, Jack, and Nicholas; great grandchild, Lauren; father and mother in law Morton and Gwen Redding. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 18, 2016 from 7-9 p.m., with prayers at 8 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home and Chapel. A celebration of life will be held Monday, September 19, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at Yarmouth Wesleyan Church with Pastor AJ Plaizier and Monsignor Gerald LeBlanc officiating. Interment will take place at Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in Donnie's memory may be made to the Tri County VON or the Friends of Gilles Boudreau Cancer Help Fund.
