Edward Colp Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Edward Borden Colp, B. Eng.; 75, of Bayport, announces his passing on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at the QE II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Lunenburg, he was a son of the late Borden and Iona (Eisenhauer) Colp. Edward took his pre-engineering education at Acadia University and then went on to take his B. Eng. and Master’s degrees from the Technical University of Nova Scotia (TUNS). His career as a civil engineer with the Dept. of Transport with the province of NS, began in 1965, working in several communities across the province until his retirement in 1994. After his retirement, he and his wife Karen moved back to his home community of Bayport where together, with Karen’s faithful support, they began operating the Christmas tree farm. As an avid outdoorsman, spending time on his John Deere Tractor, splitting and cutting wood and working side by side with Karen, were among his greatest joys. He was a loyal Blue Jays baseball fan and in his spare time enjoyed reading and spending time with his family at home, especially with his two grandchildren. Over the years, he was an avid curler during his time in New Glasgow and while residing in Halifax, served on many boards for the Resurrection Lutheran Church. During his years in Bayport, he was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Edward is survived by his loving wife, Karen of 51 years; daughter, Lindie (Ken) Colp-Rutley and granddaughters, Michaela and Stella. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213, Hwy #3, Lunenburg. A memorial service to celebrate Edward’s life will be held Saturday at 1:00 pm, at Grace Lutheran Church, First South, Rev. Rick Pryce officiating. Interment will be in Bayport Cemetery, Bayport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Edwards’s memory may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, First South or a charity of your choice.
