Richard Freese Obituary

Richard Irvin Freese, 65, of The Pas MB, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016, at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, MB Rick was born Saturday, June 16, 1951 in Birch River, Manitoba. Rick travelled northern Manitoba for work in the early to late 70’s, taking jobs with Manitoba Hydro at the Kettle Rapids Generating Station and the Mine in Snow Lake. In 1978 he moved to The Pas where he worked at The Mill. In 1980 Rick married Jeannette Rock and worked delivering fuel for Shell Canada, before completing his Carpentry Apprenticeship in 1982. Rick and Jeannette were blessed with two sons, Rick in 1982 and Ryan in 1983. In 1983 Rick and Jeannette moved to Rocky Lake East Shore where he built his family a home. Rick was involved in many community activities at the lake. He and a few other people, started “The Park” across the road from their house which has been, and is still used by children and adults alike today. He then worked as a carpenter/plumber for the Manitoba Government with the Parks Branch until buying a small business in Cranberry Portage in 1994. Rick worked tirelessly at Rick’s Family Foods Grocery Store in Cranberry Portage for 12 years, balancing work, family and volunteering his time coaching hockey and baseball, helping many young athletes develop their skills. He finally sold the store and retired at the age of 55. Rick went on to doing all the things he enjoyed; hunting, fishing, trapping and generally just being outdoors. In 2013 he was so happy to finally become a grandfather and again in 2014 and 2016. Rick was the kind of guy who would do anything for his family and friends without blinking an eye, and always did it with a smile. Rick is survived by his wife Jeannette of 35 years; sons Rick (Danielle) Freese and Ryan (Jessie) Freese; three granddaughters Brielle, Brynlee, and Avery; mother Blanche Freese; brother Scott (Debbie); sisters Debra (Bob) and Jackie; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Rick was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. He will be sincerely missed by all.
