Isabel Stewart Obituary

Isabel Stewart of Flin Flon, Manitoba passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Flin Flon General Hospital, at the age of 76 years. Isabel was born Sunday, November 26, 1939 in Wingham, Ontario to William and Claire Scott. Isabel is survived by her husband, Andy Stewart; as well as her daughter Mary Stewart; son-in-law Bob Mason; granddaughter Jennifer Mason from Richmond Hill, Ontario. Isabel was predeceased by her parents William and Claire Scott; sisters Mary Scott, Evelyn Mair; brothers Spence Scott and Lloyd Scott. Isabel was a caring and dedicated nurse at Flin Flon General Hospital for many years. She moved into a manager role in charge of the ambulance services and admitting department prior to her retirement from the hospital. Isabel also worked for a short time at The Reminder in the sales department and as a receptionist at Vijay Family Dental Corporation. Isabel held several volunteer positions in the Flin Flon community, including serving on the Board of Directors for the Crisis Centre. She was a very active member of the local Lions Club since 2000, serving on the executive committee in the role of Secretary. Isabel was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award from the Lions Club International foundation for dedicated humanitarian services and was presented with the Lion of the Year in 2002-2003. Isabel was also a member and in charge of membership for the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #73 for many years. In keeping with family wishes, cremation took place and a service of remembrance to celebrate Isabel’s life was held Friday, September 16, 2016, 1:00 pm, at St. Ann Catholic Church, Flin Flon, Manitoba with Rev. Paul Bringleson presiding. Music Ministry was provided by Mark Kolt. Eulogy was delivered by Joan Gillis and the ushers were Debbie Kuzub and Andy Wasylciw. Following this service, a luncheon was served by the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Flin Flon. It is with heartfelt thanks that the Flin Flon Lions Club has donated a memorial plaque in memory of Lion Isabel, at the Memory Garden in Warren, Manitoba and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #73 has provided an urn with the Legion Insignia, for her cremation. Special thanks to the nursing and medical staff at Flin Flon General Hospital for their excellent care of Isabel during her several months of hospitalization.
