Irene Sollman

Irene Pauline Sollman passed away on Thursday, January 6th, 2011 at age 96, at her home in Hood River, Oregon. Irene was born on July 10th, 1914, in Creighton, Nebraska to Robert Lee Mock and Minnie Mary Kyriss. Brothers, Fred, George, Pete, and sister, Helen preceded Irene in death. On September 30th, 1932, she married Paul Clarence Sollman, Sr. at Pierce, Nebraska. They lived in Nebraska, Upper Peninsula Michigan, Illinois, Washington and Oregon. While in Illinois Irene worked for Nesco. After moving to Oregon she worked for the cannery, Birdseye, in Hillsboro and sorted for Webster Packing Shed and Duckwall Pooley in Hood River. She was an active mother to eleven children, which included three sets of twins. She loved to crochet Christmas cards and sew her children’s clothes. She was also a great cook and loved babysitting her grandkids. Irene and Paul mowed lawns after retiring to keep active. She retired from mowing at the age of 85 years young after falling down and crushing her femur. She loved her family and will be greatly missed. Irene is survived by her children: Paul Clarence Jr. (Tennie) Sollman of Umatilla, OR, Mark Dwayne (Mollie) Sollman of The Dalles, OR, Donna Brogdon of Jacksonville, Ill., Betty Blake of Hood River, OR, Doris Noyes of Hood River, OR, and Paula (David) Dorzab of Hood River, OR. She is also survived by over 32 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Sr., sons; William, Donald and Ronald and daughters; Deloris and Pauline. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart of Hospice in care of Anderson’s Tribute Center. Public viewing will be held on Monday, January 10th, 2011 between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life beginning at 2pm at Anderson’s Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Avenue, Hood River, Oregon 97031. Irene will be laid to rest beside her husband, Paul at Idlewilde Cemetery following the service. Immediately following the graveside, a celebration reception will be held at the First Baptist Church of O’dell.
