William Rank Obituary

William “Bill” C. Rank, 92, formerly of Donora, passed away late Thursday evening, September 5, 2013, peacefully at Stow-Glen Retirement Community in Stow, Ohio. Bill was born in New Brighton, PA on August 6, 1921 to William & Mary (Spurgeon) Rank. The first of four children, Bill lived the majority of his life in Donora, before moving in February 2012 with his wife, Goldie, to Stow, Ohio to be closer to family. Bill attended St. Fedelis Seminary and was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corp as a Link Trainer Instructor. He worked at Miller’s For Men in Donora until 1959, then worked at Al Zeffiro Trucking until retiring in 1983. He was active in many civic and church organizations. He especially enjoyed his 70 years of involvement with the choirs of St. Charles and Our Lady of the Valley parishes in Donora. Bill is survived by his sister, Sister Rose Mary Rank of Baden, PA, brother Paul (Cindy) Rank of Rock Cave, WV; son Bill (Judy) Rank of Stow, OH, John (Twila) Rank of Tomball TX; daughter Mary (Tom) Carney of Concord, OH; and daughter Anne (Mike) Simoncelli of Greensburg, PA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Goldie Rank, in January of 2013. He was also preceded in death by his brother Edward X. Rank of Indian Head, MD. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, September 9, 2013 at the Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home and Cremation Service Inc., 40 Second St. Ext, Donora, PA 15033 (724) 379-6900 where prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013 followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Park Manor and Second St. Ext, Donora PA, with the Rev. Fr. Pierre Falkenhan as celebrant. Interment to follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Donora.
