J. LeRoy Rice

J. LeRoy Rice, 81, of Chambersburg, PA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, July 16, 2013 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born April 1, 1932 in Letterkenny Township, he was a son of the late John W. and Sarah Myers Rice. Early in life LeRoy farmed and hauled milk. He then went to work at CV Co-Op in Chambersburg and was last employed at Moore’s Lumber, retiring in 1996. He was a member of Salem United Brethren Church. An avid Penn State football fan, he enjoyed attending games in State College. His hobbies included mowing and bowling with the church bowling league. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Wenger Rice, whom he married February 27, 1954; two daughters, Cynthia K. Hendershot and husband James of McConnellsburg and Stephanie A. Rice and husband Ben Gomer of Chambersburg; two granddaughters, Amy Elvey and husband Joel of Needmore, and Kimberly Heck and husband Randy of Chambersburg; and five great-grandchildren, Sage, Sara, and Max Piper, and Meredith and Wade Elvey. He is also survived by two sisters, V. Almeda Snider and husband Alvin of Chambersburg and Darlene Heckman and husband Paul of Mercersburg; a brother, Dennis Rice and wife Shirley of Chambersburg; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Black of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dolores Black. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, July 19, 2013 at Salem United Brethren Church, 4349 Letterkenny Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Art Page officiating. Interment will follow at Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 PM Thursday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
