Albert Mauro Obituary

Albert P. Mauro, 92, of Indiana, died Friday June 24, 2011, at Moorhead House Assisted Living Facility. He was the son of Filomena and Dominic Mauro, born February 6, 1919 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania. Al came to Indiana to attend Indiana State Teachers College in 1939, where he played baseball and football in 1940 & 41, the later for George P. Miller. Al also attended the Navel Midshipman’s School at Notre Dame in 1944. After graduating in 1945, he started working, first as a teacher in Patton, Pa. then Lou Miller’s grocery store, LaMantia’s Wholesale, F.M.C. for 26 Years, Krogers Supermarkets, and the Indiana Gazette as an Advertising Rep. While in college, he met his future wife, Cosima LaMantia, and was married for more than 60 years. They had seven children, Tina McElhatton (John), Al, David (Barb), Joe (Susan), Kathy Reid ( Rick), Jackie Henderson, and Trish Marcoaldi (Ken). He has numerous Grandchildren and six Great Grandchildren, Al also had three brothers, Tony, Louis, and Jin, and three sisters, Lucy Cima, Elizabeth Trapletti, and M. L. Capozzi. In his spare time, he loved to golf, bowl, play cards, And spend time in his garden. But, what he really loved was spending time with his Grandchildren. Al was a member of the V.F.W., Elks, Allied Club, past secretary of the Inter City Ten Pin Bowling League and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of St. Bernard Choir. Friends will be received Sunday, June 26, 2011 from 6 pm. to 8 pm. And Monday June 27, 2011 from 10 is to11am at the Bence – Mihalcik Funeral Home, Indiana. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church, at 11:30 am. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Family request that any memorial contributions be made to St. Bernard School 300 Clairvaux Drive, Indiana, Pa. 15701 The Family would also like to thank the staff of Dr. Ed Woodle, the Staff at the Morehead House and AseraCare Hospice for their love and enduring compassion shown in his last few years, it was gratefully appreciated.
