Wayne Landen

Wayne LaVerne Landon was born on June 16, 1937 in Rockport, Missouri to Harry and Opal (Lindstrom) Landen. He grew up in Rockport where he graduated from High School in 1955. Wayne went on to graduate from Tarkio College in 1959 with a BA degree and continued courses at UNO toward his MBA. As a young boy, Wayne played the trombone in the school band and spent many hours shadowing his father in his repair business. Wayne married Shirley on April 6, 1991 at the Baptist Church in Omaha. They have lived in the Lakeland area near Blair. Wayne worked many years with Mutual of Omaha before retiring in 1987as a corporate executive. He worked at the Nebraska College of Business, Automated Forms and First National Bank in Omaha before retiring again in 2001. Not one to be idle, Wayne filled his time working in his church as a Deacon and visiting nursing homes, providing Bible study groups. He enjoyed boating, fishing and camping. Wayne had a love for music and played guitar in a local band. He was active in the Boy Scouts and the Jaycees. Wayne was a caring, devoted and inspiring man who could always see the good in life. He was passionate about his Huskers and his outreach ministry. Wayne could often be heard asking “Is my part straight?’ Wayne passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 18 days. He was preceded in death by his son Brian, daughter Lynne Schellen, step-daughter Cheryl Tompkins and grandson Tommy Birge; Wayne is survived by wife Shirley; daughters and sons-in-law Nancy and Steve Black of Mead, NE and Jill and Mike Birge of AR; step-daughters Gail (Bill) Pauley of Prospect, KY and Susan Tompkins of Louisville, KY; step-son Dave Tompkins of Roanoke, VA; 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; sister Yvonne (Valdis) Zebauers of Golden, CO. Landen, Wayne age 75 years of Blair, NE Preceded in death by his son Brian, daughter Lynne Schellen, step-daughter Cheryl Tompkins and grandson Tommy Birge; survived by wife Shirley; daughters and sons-in-law Nancy and Steve Black of Mead, NE and Jill and Mike Birge of AR; step-daughters Gail (Bill) Pauley of Prospect, KY and Susan Tompkins of Louisville, KY; step-son Dave Tompkins of Roanoke, VA; 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; sister Yvonne Zebauers of Golden, CO; Visitation Sunday 2 to 6 PM with family receiving friends from 4 to 6 at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to the funeral at church; funeral Monday 10:30 at Living Hope Church (10194 HWY 75) .
