Charles Illsley THE PAS, Manitoba Obituary

Charles Illsley

Charles was born Thursday, November 1, 1951 to Emily and Charles Illsley of The Pas, Manitoba. Charles grew up in The Pas until his untimely death, Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Hospital, The Pas, Manitoba, at the age of 60 years, due to health problems. Okay, okay, we know everyone knew him as “Bimbo”. Those of you who do not know or heard the story behind how Charles became Bimbo, let our family tell you the story. When Charles was a small boy his parents bought a new record player and records. To their amazement, he came across a record by Jim Reeves, which had this song called “Bimbo” on it. Well once he heard that song there was no stopping him. He would play this song over and over and over again, no matter how much his parents and siblings tried to hide the record on him. He even went around the house singing, “Bimbo Bimbo where you going to go-e-o.” Then one day when he went to find the record it was broken… hmmm was it his parents or was it his siblings? So now you too, know how Charles became Bimbo. During his life, Bimbo was employed in several professions starting with trucking for Swan River—The Pas Transport. Bimbo continued his truck driving for several years but decided to take a spell at driving taxi for a few years. Then back to the big rigs he went, we guess that small vehicles were not his style. At the time of his passing, Bimbo was employed by Lakeshore Landscaping but was on medical leave. In his free time, Bimbo enjoyed wood working. But his biggest pleasure was helping out his family and friends. He would assist whenever and wherever he could. Besides being a helpful guy, Bimbo was also a prankster as his nieces and nephews could attest to this, as well as those who knew him. Charles was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Emily Illsley; grandparents Charles and Emma Illsley, Garnet and Winnifred Larter; sister Carol Head; brothers-in-law Dwayne Armbruster and Fernand Lafontaine; niece Jaime Wheeler; nephew Frederick Illsley. Charles is survived by his daughters Madelene (George) Sander, Sandra Illsley; three grandchildren Cory, Samatha and Jasmine; one great grandchild Serentiy; sisters Darlene (Maurice) Morin, Winnifred Armbruster, Rosemary Lafontaine, Joy (Ahab) Constant, Roberta (Darwin) Wheeler, Heather (Harold) Hogg; brother John (Terri) Illsley; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many good friends. In keeping with Bimbo’s wishes, cremation took place and a service of remembrance to celebrate his life was held Tuesday, September 18, 2012, 2:00 pm at Christ Church Anglican, The Pas, Manitoba with Rev. Rebecca Graham and Mr. Mike Dickens presiding. Urn bearers were Bimbo’s nephews Morris Morin and Elgin Morin. Honorary pallbearers were all Bimbo’s family and friends Following the interment prayers at Lakeside Cemetery, The Pas, Manitoba, family and friends were invited to a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #19 Club Room. If friends so desire, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3L 0K6 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, Box 26331, Toronto, Ontario, M7Y 4R1, would be appreciated by Charles’s family.
