Moral Quest Obituary

Moral Author Quest, born Donald Francis Ernst in Cincinnati, Ohio, on August 27, 1933, from complications of A.L.S. Mr. Quest lived on Maui for 22 years. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberleigh Ernst, and sons Kevin Ernst, and Carey Ernst, who live on the U.S. mainland. He was a dedicated atheist (whose best friend was a Methodist minister). He also loved nature and animals and as a result, was a committed vegan for the past 37 years. A writer of prose and poetry, he published in all genres under pen names Moral Quest, M. A. Quest, Don Ernst and Don Francis. Current books in print are, "DEATHRIGHTS: In Defense of Suicide", and a young adult book, "The SEA GIRL". As a playwright, Mr. Quest developed political theaters ("The Living Newspaper") in Massachusetts and Illinois, and created one-person dramas based on the lives of Walt Whitman, Henry David Thoreau (both plays were performed in Hawaii and California), and Mahatma Gandhi, which was produced across the U.S. and throughout India. Mr. Quest taught for many years from the middle school level through university professor. He began his teaching career as Assistant Professor, and Acting Head of the Department of English at the University of San Diego, in 1964. His last teaching position was Instructor of English at Maui Community College in 1992, at which time he retired. Services: A memorial celebration will be held at a later date.
