Fredric Brown Obituary

AKWESASNE - Mr. Fredric J. Brown, 55, 897 Island Road, died very unexpectedly Monday (August 4, 2008) at the Cornwall Community Hospital. He was born May 13, 1953 in Malone, the son of John Percy and Louise David Brown. He graduated from Salmon River Central School in 1972 and later from Canton ATC, where he studied Electrical and Culinary Arts. He also received his welding certificate from St. Lawrence College in Cornwall in 1986. He married Rebecca Benedict on November 29, 1986 at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Thomas Egan, officiating. Fred was a maintenance supervisor for the Akwesasne Mohawk Board of Education. At one time, he also worked as a laborer building helping to build the Bingo Palace and was a self-employed contractor for a short time. In 1979, he taught electricity courses for the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge. When he was younger, he enjoyed playing many sports and belonged to many teams. He enjoyed bowling and golfing. Fred also enjoyed visiting and joking with people, mowing his lawn as well as his neighbors, and was a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Buffalo Bills. He had a great fondness for animals, especially Eddie the Cat, Pebbles the Beagle, Dino the Siberian Husky, and Barney the free range Lab. Fred is survived by his wife, Rebecca Benedict; his mother, Louise Brown, Akwesasne; 3 sisters, Mary White and her husband, Larry, Fredericksburg, VA; Janice Brown and Adrienne Brown, both of Akwesasne; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, John on February 11, 1979. Friends may call Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held Thursday 2:00 PM with Rev. George H. Belgarde, S.J., officiating. Cremation will follow. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mohawk Council Ambulance Corps, Hogansburg/Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department, or the Akwesasne Freedom School.
