Robert Cartmell Obituary

Robert M. Cartmell, Sr., 91, passed away February 12, 2012 at his daughter’s home in Murrieta after a brief illness. He was born May 8, 1920 in St. Louis, Mo., to Robert D. and Mary Soisson Cartmell. The family moved to Chicago in 1934. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, including the invasion of Normandy. Before going overseas, he met and married the love of his life, Ruth Koenig. They had three children while living in Chicago and moved to the San Fernando Valley in 1954. Upon retirement, he and Ruth moved to The Colony in 1989, where they were charter members of this community. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and two sisters; his wife of 56 years, Ruth; his son, Robert M. Cartmell, Jr. and Ronald L. Cartmell. He is survived by his daughter, Caroll Hiatt (Don) of Murrieta; two daughters-in-law, Jill Cartmell of Chandler Ariz., and Gail Cartmell, of Salt Lake City, Utah. Also, six grandchildren, Robert M. Cartmell, III (Jennifer) of French Valley, Deborah Smith (George) of Murrieta, Carolyn Garcia (Carlos) of Canyon Country, Christy Cartmell of Paragould, Ark., Kathy (Derek) Harness of Robbins, Tenn., and Cindy (John) LaPore of Lake KonKonKoma, NY. There are 20 great-grandchildren, including Robert M. Cartmell, IV of French Valley; and two great-great-grandchildren. No Services are planned and contributions may be made to St. Martha’s Parish, Murrieta in his name.
