Kathleen Skrinar, M.D. 2/1/28 - 4/1/11 Kathleen was born Feb. 1, 1928 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the second of four children, to Honor Higgins Gallagher and Patrick Thomas Gallagher. She died April 1, 2011 at home at the age of 83. She graduated from elementary school and from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She married Thomas Henry Skrinar, in 1952 in David City, NE and they had four children. She graduated with a B.S. from Creighton University in Omaha, NE and with an M.D. in 1956 from Creighton University Medical School. She interned at Providence Hospital, Portland, OR in 1956-57. She used this knowledge to support her husband, who was also an MD, throughout his medical career. She was a member and past president of The Catholic Woman's Club and taught the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd at St. Patrick's Parish in Tacoma. She was a political activist whose interests included Right to Life, voting machine issues, and medical legislation. She was a tireless volunteer and generous benefactor to multiple educational institutions. She was preceded in death by her husband; by her parents, by her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Jerry Bahula of Omaha, NE; by her brother, Raymond Gallagher of Tacoma; by her sister-in-law and husband, Helen and William Dickson of McMinneville, OR and her sister-in-law, Margaret Moir of Seattle. She is survived by her four children, Thomas Joseph Skrinar (Patricia Padilla), Tacoma, Valerie Ann Hogan (Brian), Seattle, Suzanne Mary Milton (Fred), Mesa, AZ and Maria Claire Skrinar, Tacoma, her 11 grandchildren, Andrew, Emilia and Rachel Mara Skrinar, Giles and Patrick Hogan, and Steven, Louise, Veronica, Rosalie, James and Peter Milton, and by 1 great-grandchild Rubi Skrinar. She is also survived by her brother Brendan J. Gallagher (Diane), Tacoma, and 2 nephews, William M. Dickson (Becky) McMinneville, OR and John Gallagher, Tacoma and several other nephews and nieces. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 6th at Gaffney Funeral Home Chapel, 1002 S. Yakima Ave. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 7, 2011 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 7112 S 12th St. followed by reception at St. Charles and then interment at Calvary Cemetery. The family extends a special thank you to the compassionate care givers who helped her remain at home until the: Natalie White, Shauanna Charbonnet, Josephine Mburugu, Aundrea McCarthy, Marlon White, and Sallie Gilyard.
