James Graybill Obituary

James F. Graybill, 71, of Rutherford, Harrisburg, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2009, at his home. Born in Harrisburg on January 23, 1938, he was the son of Frank and Evelyn (nee Tipton) Graybill. After many years of service, Jim had retired from both the Rite Aid Corporation in Shiremanstown and Sears Auto Center in Colonial Park. He also had worked for Evan Pres and had been a member of the PA Army National Guard. In retirement, Jim had faithfully home cared his wife, Carol L. (nee Conners) Graybill until her death in 2007. He attended to his garden, walked his Scottish terriers three times a day in all weather, attended the Senators’ games with his brother-in-law and the Bears’ with his nephew and family, and regaled his family and friends with all his jokes, teasings, and the latest shenanigans of the Central Dauphin School District board. Jim was a lifelong member of the Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church of Harrisburg, an ardent and devoted fan of the New York Yankees, and aided many causes both locally and internationally, and read his Bible everyday. Jim is survived by his three children: Susan M. Graybill of Panama City, FL, Scott E. Graybill of Harrisburg, and Sharon L. Graybill of West Palm Beach, FL; his stepbrother and stepsisters, Daniel Yaziwich of Harrisburg, Diane Woodward of Clyde, NY, Betty Yaziwich of Seattle, WA, Mary Yaziwich of Harrisburg, and Jean Yetter of Oley; his wife’s sisters: Shelby Pogera and her husband Peter of Harrisburg, and Barbara Davis and her companion Charlie Schubauer of Carlisle; his wife’s niece and nephews (Shelby’s children), Renee Still of New Cumberland, Ronald J. Wilsbach of Orange County, CA, Robert I. Wilsbach husband of Lisa of Linglestown, and Randall W. Wilsbach husband of Patricia of Camp Hill. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Audrey A. Rose, and a brother-in-law Ira I. “Butch” Conners, Jr. The family is respecting Jim’s request not to have a service. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Canine & Feline Boutique, c/o Judy Murtoff, 6226 Derry Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111, to provide for his beloved pet and companion, Mackie.
