Naples, FL/Auburn, MA- William D. Rogers, Sr., 79, died suddenly on March 28, 2010 in Naples Community Hospital.
William was born in Wellesley, MA on October 4, 1930. He was the son of the late Arthur and Florence (McDermott) Rogers. He is survived by his wife Ruth V. (Bjorkman) Rogers, and his children; Cathleen Bloomfield and her husband, Harvey of Mashpee, Kimberly Graves and her husband David of Auburn, and William D. “Billy” Rogers, Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Auburn; his seven loving grandchildren; Arthur Rogan, Alexander Bloomfield, Sara Bloomfield, David Graves, Danielle Graves, William Rogers III, Maria Rogers, and great grandson, Zemmari Bloomfield. He leaves a brother, Earl R. Rogers and a sister Patricia Slamin. He is preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Rogers, Jr., and sisters; Barbara O'Dell and Florence Wiley.
He was a graduate of Wellesley High School, where he participated in wrestling and tennis. He was a member of the choir which began his passion for singing. He was a graduate of Nichols College. He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. He earned the highest security clearance level as a cryptologist. He served two years in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Rogers owned and operated Briscon Electric Manufacturing Corporation for over 35 years. His hobbies included stamp and coin collecting. For 35 years he spent his summers with family and friends at Popponesset Beach on Cape Cod. For the past 23 years, his winters were spent in Naples, Fl with his beloved "Dedham girl," Ruthie.
Bill taught everyone a lesson on how to live life with enthusiasm by showing his love, kindness, gentleness and generosity. His unique wit and charm touched the lives of whoever he met. He showed his humanity by helping so many of those in need. He was so very proud of his entire family that meant the world to him.
"My Son," you were truly loved and will never be forgotten.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday April 5, 2010 from 5-8 PM in the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St. Auburn. His funeral will be held from the funeral home with a Mass celebrated Tuesday April 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford St. North, Auburn. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
