She was preceded in death by her mother, LaVerne Thurman. Survivors include her husband of 26 years, James W. Smith Jr.; her children, Amy Lynette Smith, Andrea Leigh Smith and James Wesley Smith III; grandchildren, Danielle Woolbright, and Kira and Darian Smith; brothers, Jerry Guy and Nicholas Lyle Thurman; and sisters, Diana Reeder and Linda Thurman.
