John Veasey

Obituary of John J. “Jack” Veasey John J. “Jack” Veasey, 60, of Hummelstown, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016, in the M. S. Hershey Medical Center. Born in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia on April 4, 1955, he was the son of the late John and Marie Connor Veasey. Poetry was Jack’s life. A renowned poet, Jack had eleven books of poetry published. He also taught poetry through both Dauphin County and York County Library Systems. Jack was a former member of the Paper Sword, a poetry organization; and was a member of The Almost Uptown Poetry Cartel at The Midtown Scholar, Harrisburg. He was an editor for several newspapers, as well as a private editor, and in the 1970’s, served as the editor of the Philadelphia Gay News. He was a graduate of New Horizon School of Northeast Catholic High School, Philadelphia. Jack’s other love was singing and songwriting. He had a magnificent tenor voice and found great enjoyment in singing around the house and with the Gay Men’s Chorus of Harrisburg. Jack is survived by his loving life partner of 38 years, P. David Walker. To celebrate Jack’s life take time to read his poetry and listen to the songs he wrote and recorded.
